Oyo Gives N28m To Families Of Bodija Traders Killed By Boko Haram In Maiduguri

Families of the Bodija traders that were killed by suspected Boko Haram sect members in Maiduguri, Borno State, when they went to purchase grains and other foodstuffs from the northern state, have been given N28 million by the Oyo State government.

Governor Abiola Ajimobi distributed the cheques to the families of the slain traders at the Bodija Market on Tuesday.
Representatives of the 14 families, mainly the widows of the deceased and the aged mother of one of the victims, were given N2 million each.
In his remarks, Gov. Ajimobi said, “We cannot pay for people’s lives, but we can cushion the effects of their departure by helping their families.”
While describing the killing of the traders as “gruesome”, the governor urged the bereaved to accept the incident as an act of God.
One of the widows, Mrs. Folasade Afolabi, who spoke on behalf of the slain traders’ families, thanked Gov. Ajimobi for the gesture.
Also, the Chairman of the Ibadan Foodstuff Sellers Association, Alhaji Olalekan Azeez, urged the Federal Government to improve the security situation in the North.
